What Is Bonding?

Bonding is a conservative procedure in which tooth-colored dental resins and composites are used to change the shape or color of a tooth. Direct bonding can also be used to seal unwanted gaps, repair chipped teeth, correct broken teeth and even cover unsightly stains. Unlike caps and crowns, bonding only requires a minimal amount of tooth reduction.
What Is Involved in a Bonding Procedure?

After we have properly prepped your tooth, we will etch the tooth with a weak phosphoric acid solution in order to create a rougher, porous surface. This will increase the strength of the bonding. Next, we will apply, shape and contour the composite resin onto the tooth. We will harden the resin with a curing light, perfect the shape of the tooth, and polish the tooth in order to achieve the natural look you desire.
How Long Does Bonding Last?

The average lifespan of a bonded composite is between four and eight years. Depending on the location of the composite within your mouth and how well you maintain your dental hygiene, it may last longer. Over time, you may want to touch up or re-bond the area.
What Problems Can a Dental Bonding Remedy?
